If you live in North Texas and need a vacation that’s close by but away from all the hustle and bustle of the big cities, read on!
1. Broken Bow, OK

Broken Bow is approximately 3 hours northeast from the DFW area and has become a popular favorite. Although it’s more crowded than it used to be, it’s still a great area to visit. If you are looking to stay in a luxury cabin in a beautiful wooded area, this should be at the top of your list.
2. Jefferson, TX

Jefferson is approximately a 3 hour drive from DFW and is right on the Texas and Louisiana border. This historic town is rich with history and has some great hotels and bed & breakfast spots. This is a great town to visit on a romantic weekend getaway.
3. Davis, OK

Less than 2 hours north of DFW, this is a perfect place to take the kids. You can visit Turner Falls Park, drive through the Arbuckle Mountains, and visit the Arbuckle Wilderness wildlife area.
4. Colorado Bend State Park, TX

If you enjoy the great outdoors, you will love this state park. In the Summer, you can swim in the cool and gorgeous swimming holes. In the Fall and Spring, you can hike the trails and take in the fantastic scenery that is hard to find in Texas. You can camp right in the park or find a hotel/home rental nearby.
5. Graham/ Possum Kingdom Lake Area

Sitting 2 hours west of Fort Worth is the small town of Graham. It has a quaint town square with shops and restaurants. However, the best part of this area is the rolling hills near Possum Kingdom lake. This area is really lovely and there are hiking trails and swimming areas aplenty.
6. Salado, TX

Salado is an adorable town that is not talked about much, but it’s a perfect weekend getaway. You can antique shop in the town square, and visit some of the beautiful outdoor areas nearby in Bell County.
7. New Braunfels, TX

You can find this area about 4.5 hours south of DFW. This town is great for a summer vacay because you can float either the Comal or Guadeloupe rivers. Plus there are tons of activities in the area, such as Schlitterbahn Waterpark, Gruene Hall, and San Marcos Premium Outlets Mall.
8. Glenrose, TX

Glenrose has a cute small downtown area, but the main attraction to this area are the parks. Dinosaur Valley is the most famous park in the area, but there are also some fabulous lesser known ones such as Big Rocks Park (pictured above) and more!
